Our Philosophy

Summit is committed to sustainability by holding ourselves accountable through strong leadership and fostering a culture of responsibility and personal ownership in all areas of our business.

Summit’s core focus is to “build a great company with exceptional people to preserve and restore our natural environment.” An integral component of being a “great company” is being a responsible corporate citizen.

Corporate Responsibility is fundamental to our business and central to our brand. It means we live our core values. It inspires a code of conduct and the ethical standards that shape the way we engage the environments and communities in which we live and work. Corporate Responsibility is practiced and promoted throughout our company and it governs how we do business.

For us, Corporate Responsibility includes Health, Safety and Environment; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; Acknowledgment of Indigenous Peoples and Heritage; and Community Involvement.

Health, Safety and Environmental

At Summit, the safety of our staff, clients, customers, communities and environments in which we work is paramount to our organisation. We are governed by a robust Health and Safety Policy and our management team is genuinely committed to driving continuous improvement of our health, safety and environmental performance.

Summit has had no Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) for over 7 years and counting. In 2020, Summit had no;

  • Actual Serious Incidents

  • Potential Serious Incidents

  • Environmental Consequence Incidents

  • Process Safety Events

Summit has developed and implemented a robust integrated Health Safety Environment and Quality Information Management System (IMS).  Summit uses ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and AS/NZS 4801:2001 as a framework and allows our organization to document and improve our health safety environment and quality practices in order to exceed the needs and expectations of our customers and stakeholders. Summit promote reporting of incidents that offer opportunities to learn and prevent future incidents.

Our passionate, qualified and experienced Health Safety Environment staff supervise and collaborate with our operational divisions. Our qualified Trainers and Assessors are onsite to ensure employees and contractors are trained, competent and indoctrinated within our Health Safety Environment Culture. We believe in developing and encouraging our staff in further training and skills development, ensuring competency and retention.  All new client projects are operated in accordance with project specific safety management plans once a specific scope (including location and job requirements) has been provided and risk assessment undertaken.

Summit maintains a safe work environment and is compliant with all applicable Health Safety Environment legislation through an ongoing program consisting of:

  • Employee education, orientation and training;

  • Hazard identification, assessment and control;

  • Joint Worksite Health and Safety Committee;

  • Worksite inspections; and

  • Event (near miss, incident and accident) reporting and investigations.

  • Environmental Management Plans

  • Maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)

  • Completing Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA)

  • Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS)

  • Complying with legislated and client requirements

Summit provided expedited support to staff and stakeholders during Australia’s natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. We continue to adjust our protocols and measures put in place on the advice from relevant government and health authorities.

 To deliver on Summit’s expectations for health, safety and environment excellence we require participation by everyone, every day and on every job.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Summit fosters a workplace culture that is inclusive and respectful of all people.

We endeavour to create a workplace in which everyone knows they belong and their contributions to our business are valued. We listen and make sure everyone has a voice where possible and ensure their contributions are considered while making decisions. Summit works to create a collaborative environment where everyone can achieve their full potential.

We view diversity as a strength. We believe it helps retain exceptional workers, creates innovation and helps with company resiliency, among other benefits.

We aim to provide equitable and inclusive work environments for all people. Summit is an equal opportunity employer.
